MINISTRIES

When was the last time you lent a helping hand? Service is a big part of our UCC family, both nationally and here in New Smyrna Beach.

At the national level, through donations, we strongly support ministries such as One Great Hour of Sharing, Strengthen the Church, Neighbors in Need, Our Church's Wider Mission, and the Christmas Fund. Within our local communities there are various opportunities for our members to serve - either through supporting the work of our ministries or by volunteering for committee work.

The power of our church community is demonstrated by our desire to serve others. We shall never forget how the Good Shepherd sacrificed his life and paved the path so that we could be saved.

What gifts and abilities can you bring?

GIFTS OF LOVE

Gifts of Love (GOL) is  a non-profit coalition that engages the community to  help give those less fortunate meet basic needs by providing food.  GOL makes referrals to other social service agencies that are available to help with other needs. GOL funding is 100% dependent upon donations from individuals, churches, business and community organizations. Our church membership is active in supporting an all-volunteer non-profit community coalition serving the New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater and Oak Hill areas through volunteers and donations. Each Christmas we participate in a special program leading up to the holiday season where we match donors with needy families to provide gifts for all.

SURF'S EDGE

In January 2019, our church along with the New Smyrna Beach community celebrated the life of Lauralei, a beloved young high school student. The tragedy of her precious young life ending by suicide was just too much to walk away from for her loved ones. In particular Tammy and Carolyn Cote felt God’s nudge to build something from this pain that could bring hope and healing to them and the many people who Lauralei touched.  Piece by piece folks have responded in ways that have brought the young folks and adult support team of Surf’s Edge together. God is clearly at work in the way Surf’s Edge is building community, hope, and coping skills.  Teens are welcome to join us each Wednesday at 6:00 pm as we create awareness around coping, supporting and educating, while having some fun.  Call our church office for more information.

TEENS IN ACTION

The mission of our youth group is to help young people (in the 6th -12th grades) recognize themselves as members of a faith community in Christ and a vital part of the local and global community.  Our goal is to encourage personal development and to help our young people develop and experience a fulfilling spiritual life.

We meet every Wednesday that the public schools are open from 3 pm to 6:00 pm at the church. We have Teen Sunday every third Sunday from September through May.

Our youth live very busy lives, full of activities. We are here to help them learn and grow, and instill a sense of helping out our local community, as well as the world; of learning and growing while still concerned and interested in their communities and world events. The United Church of Christ NSB acknowledges and supports our young people as active participants and full members of the body of Christ! We enlist the aid of our chaperones, helpers and the parents of these children in many of the activities.  Here is a list of some of our most recent activities -
